In order to probe deeper into the subsurface, Geoptic has developed a new muon imaging system to be lowered down into a drilled borehole. These detectors can be strung together with power and data communications passed through, so that more than one can be deployed on the same string.
The borehole imaging detectors have been designed with flexibility in mind, based on a four conductor cable and/or weight-bearing steel cable for those larger scale deployments with long strings.
To accommodate integration with existing sensor strings, Geoptic offers an additional bespoke end cap design service.
On the surface, the downhole muon imaging string connects to an intermediate IP67 data acquisition node that controls the systems and provides power and sensor-to-Ethernet interface, allowing monitoring with conventional IT networks. Where secure remote access is possible to the local network, the detector system’s dashboard can be monitored from any external internet connection in the world.
Designed to operate underwater downhole, at up to 150 bar or equivalent pressure.
Suitable for NQ boreholes, tight spaces and extreme environments
The system can scale, by simply adding more detectors to the chain, in order to have shorter acquisition times and/or mitigation against increased depths.
